Professional experience

Dr Ian Nnatu has been a consultant psychiatrist with the NHS since 2006 and he has been in private practice for several years and he was medical director at Cygnet Hospital Harrow (formerly Bowden House Clinic) for 7 years.

He qualified in 1994 and this was followed by postgraduate psychiatric training in London with the Charing Cross and St Mary’s training scheme leading to the award of the MRCPsych by examination in 2002. As a specialist registrar, he undertook training in cognitive behavioural therapy at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, leading to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT in 2006.

He continues to practise part-time as a consultant psychiatrist in the NHS at Charing Cross Hospital, London. He is an honorary clinical senior lecturer with Imperial College London where he is also an academic tutor to medical students.

In 2019, 2020 and 2021, he was featured on the Powerlist as one of the 100 most influential black people in the UK.

Personal statement

Dr Nnatu is a vastly experienced and highly sought-after psychiatrist and he is known for delivering holistic, compassionate, high quality, person-centred care. He has an interest in functional, integrative psychiatry having undergone training with the Institute for Functional Medicine.
