Professional experience

Dr Beth Anfilogoff is a counselling psychologist who has worked with individuals and groups in various settings, including the NHS and private contexts. Beth has worked in an NHS trauma-specific service, providing individual therapy based on second-and third-wave CBT, and trauma-focused CBT. She has worked as part of a GP surgery for clients using IAPT services. She has also worked in private day care therapy services, helping create and deliver personalised treatment programmes for clients and their families.

Beth currently works in Nightingale Hospital’s general psychiatric unit. She runs group sessions for the inpatient population, including process, mindfulness, psychoeducation and CBT groups.

Personal statement

Beth views her role as supporting her clients with the changes they would like to make. She has worked with a wide range of mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety, difficult life events, OCD, relationship issues and trauma. She works to create a collaborative, non-judgmental environment where she can offer skills, psychological insight and importantly a confidential space where clients feel safe to explore what burdens them.

One of Beth’s areas of interest is working with young people in the stage of life ’emerging adulthood’ – the ages of 18 to 27. Beth has run workshops for students and professionals exploring the therapeutic skills and social experiences relevant to this age group.

Beth’s doctoral research explores the experiences of young people from extremely affluent backgrounds and the ways in which this can impact their psychological and emotional experiences. This is an under-explored area and Beth has presented her research at conferences, engaging with peers and professionals about the co-existence of privilege and pain.
